Are the so called "10 month" online degree program acceptable to finding/getting an job? Is it worth it to have it? Other than their "accreditation", is it acceptable to people looking for MBA graduate with an "online degree"?

My personal experience as both a student and an instructor has been excellent in an online environment. Of course, I am only referring to fully accredited institutions.

I earned my MBA and almost finished my PhD through hybrid programs. Most of the course work was done via asynchronous online methods. If you think about graduate work is mostly research. I would not be teaching college and consulting all over without it. Plus, the paper does not say ONLINE. I would recommend pursuing a degree from an accredited institution that offers a campus experience as well. This does not mean that you will go to campus, but who will know?

I always have three recommendations for everyone looking into online/distance education. They all have to do with exploring after all you have to defend your assets.

1. Make certain that you have triple checked their accreditation. First, they tell you what it is, then you go to that accrediting bodies website (not through the link provided by the school), and thirdly you would visit the department of education to see what they have to say. Do your diligent research into the institutions once you have narrowed down to a couple. You can look at the Better Business Bureau for more information of the college.

2. You must have extreme self motivation and be able to teach yourself per say. This means that you will not have someone telling you verbally, so it is up to you to get the information from the course room, text, and other resources. The best way to look at it is like a guided independent study course.

3. Review your goals, personal and professional. Make sure that the school that you are going to offers the programs that match your goals. Do not settle. There are many programs that are similar, but you have to make the ultimate decision. Do not let be based on finances and length of program, but the fact that when you are finished or near finished you will be able to assume your proper place in the career field sought.

You should market yourself and not the degree or university. There are many traditional universities offering degrees that can be earned through online methods. Look at that if you are truly concerned with the name of the school. Good luck on your search!

I really want to hear from people who have experience hiring. If you had to choose between two applicants who are 100% equally qualified and have all the same experience and personality traits to bring to the position but have just one difference–one earned their MBA online and the other in person–which would you choose? Assume that the online MBA was earned from a highly reputable online program and the MBA earned in person was earned from a typical public university program. Please explain your answer.

The person with actual classroom attendance would be preferred by far. As a former job recruiter, I can say that we would never hire anyone with any online degree. We also would never hire anyone from any for-profit school. I still have friends in the business who say that those schools mean an automatic rejection. Some of those with the worst reputations include Kaplan, University of Phoenix, Everest, Brown-Mackie, Full Sail, Capella, DeVry, and Penn Foster. See RipOffReport.com for reviews.
There have been widespread reports of students hiring impostors to take online courses for them. That means that any online program is considered questionable.
Some legit brick and mortar colleges offer blended courses which allow some of the studies to be done online. Classroom attendance is still required for tests or any lab work. During tests, a photo I.D. is required for entry to the classroom. That helps prevent cheating by online impostors. Those type of classes are far more likely to be accepted in the job market than any online-only programs.

I am planning on doing an AMBA accredited MBA from UK and wanted to know if its any good?
Are the job prospects good after the MBA for an Indian?
Is doing an AMBA accredited course worth the extra money?
Is the MBA considered valid outside UK?

Thanks for the help!

Before you decide on an MBA program explore the Internet for information on available programs. There is a lot of information available in free public service sites. Some sites are limited to specific countries, such as Germany, UK, or Australia. Some list a small number of select schools, while others may include more than 2,000 MBA programs listed worldwide. You can find the program that best fits you. You can search for programs by location (US, Europe, Far East, etc.), by concentration (finance, marketing, aviation management, health management, accounting, etc.), by type of program (full-time, distance learning, part-time, executive, and accelerated), and by type of degree (MBA, MS, Ph.D). In some cases you can select your own criteria and preferences to get a list of universities that satisfy your needs.

You can find data on entrance requirements, program costs, program characteristics, joint degrees such as MBA/JD, and much more. Some sites have links to the schools’ web sites, or provide email addresses to contact schools of your choice, and send them pre-applications. You can find lists of top schools ranked by various periodicals or ranked by starting salaries of graduates, GMAT scores, and other criteria. Generally you should stay away from any sites that require you to pay to get information or that promise to find scholarships for you or ensure acceptance into a program. Before you provide any personal information to a site, be sure to read their privacy policy and make sure they are not harvesting email addresses for sale.

ITT is NOT regionally accredited. Some companies will not accept their degree as valid. This does not mean that the program is bad, but it does mean that your degree will not be worth the paper its printed on.
If you are looking for a regionally accreditied online MBA, try Keller Graduate School.

I am thinking about getting an MBA and eventually a DBA. I dont meet the requirements to get accepted in an AACSB accredited MBA program. However there are quite a few ACBSP programs that I qualify for. Should I go for an ACBSP DBA program? Will that look as good on a resume as an AACSB accredited MBA?

The two degrees are not comparable. The DBA is more similar to a Ph.D. The requirements for an MBA are an undergraduate degree in any field. Beyond that, schools require an admission test such as the GMAT and many prefer work experience, but AACSB accreditation does not impose restrictions on which students accredited schools can accept.

I suggest you consult the Official MBA Guide, a comprehensive free public service with more than 2,000 MBA programs listed worldwide. It allows you to search for programs by location (US, Europe, Far East, etc.), by concentration (finance, marketing, aviation management, health management, accounting, etc.), by type of program (full-time, distance learning, part-time, etc), and by listing your own criteria and preferences to get a list of universities that satisfy your needs. You can even specify the accreditation you want. You can use the Guide to find schools that offer the DBA in addition to the MBA, contact schools of your choice, examine their data, visit their web site, and send them pre applications. You can see lists of top 40 schools ranked by starting salaries of graduates, GMAT scores, and other criteria. It’s the best service available at http://officialmbaguide.org.

I am finding the rankings for the top full-time MBA programs, but I need the top Online MBA programs as I cannot quit work to just go to school. I have a degree and good grades, so I want a school that will be in the top 10 or 20.

There are tons of online programs. I personally attended American Intercontinental Univ. and Capella University, and have taught for various online schools including the University of Phoenix. All are accredited and solid programs.

The key is to make sure the college/university is accredited. I have three basic recommendations for everyone looking into online/distance education. They all have to do with exploring; after all, you have to defend your assets.

1. Make certain that you have triple checked their accreditation.
You should market yourself and not the degree or university. There are many traditional universities offering degrees that can be earned through online methods. Distance Learning Alliance has a list of these traditional online schools. Look at that if you are truly concerned with the name of the school. Good luck on your search!
